HB 1 (Social Media Use for Minors), which would impose a ban on certain popular social media accounts for those under age 16.
Status: This bill passed the Senate Fiscal Policy Committee on February 15, and is slated for consideration on the Senate floor on February 21.
HB 931/SB 1044 (School Chaplains), which would allow volunteer chaplains to provide support, services, and programs to K-12 public school students during instructional hours, with their parent’s/caregiver’s permission.
Status: HB 931 will be considered by the full House on February 21, and if approved, will be sent to the Senate and likely referred to the Rules Committee.
In the meantime, Senate companion bill SB 1044 just passed the Senate Appropriations Committee for Education, after which it will proceed to the Rules Committee.
Final consideration on the Senate floor could come as early as the week of February 26.
HB 49 (Employment and Curfew of Minors), which would permit minors age 16 and up to work more than 30 hours a week and more than 8 hours a day, even on school days.
Status: This bill may be scheduled to be heard by the Senate Rules Committee on February 26, with just enough time left in Session to be considered on the Senate floor.
